A bit of good news

Great news: the last two days have been slightly better than the first two days of Henry's life!  While the condition is still severe and he is still expected to have a rough road ahead of him--if we are trying to focus on the positive, there are some things to be grateful for.  Henry has now been off his feeding tubes and ventilator for a full 24 hours!  I believe this is a wonderful testament to his strength.  And just as good: this allows David & Dana to finally hold their baby!  Sadly for all of us friends and family, the nurses are advising to limit the number of people holding him right now.  I take such satisfaction in my role as an aunt, it breaks my heart to not have had the chance to hold this nephew of mine yet.  But, if it's in Henry's best interest, who can complain?  Just to see David and Dana get to hold him right now is a cause for joy.  Particularly if this helps to keep Henry calm, stable, and strong for surgery.

after pigging out on a bottle.

While there was progress to rejoice over, today was still somewhat bittersweet for his parents.   Today was the day they should have been dismissed from Olathe Med & going home together as a family of three.  Knowing that the time for Henry to come home is likely a month or more away is a tough reality.  I continue to be amazed by David & Dana's strength through this and their ability to maintain their sense of humor.  While there are obviously going to breakdowns from time to time and triggered by reasons they may not even understand...they are doing a remarkable job.  Our prayers continue to be with you guys!
