A Case of the Mondays

Below is an email I got from Danny this morning.

Henry had another rough night. Sort of the same thing as yesterday.
Breathing hard and straining for breaths.

They are going to do another blood transfusion. His heart and lungs look
good and are functioning like normal. They think it has something to do
with the medicine being out of his system and his body not reacting well
to that. He is back on the ventilator, but Dave said he is breathing over
that and not using it much, if at all. This may have something to do with the
acidity of his blood.. Dave and Dana went home, but they
were up there all night again last night. PRAY!

After so many days of good news, it is tough to have a couple of days with some backward steps.  Please continue to focus prayers around Henry's strength and progress forward.

Sunday update: a rough start.

Danny just got the call that today wasn't Henry's best day.  Dana called CMH when she woke up at 3 a.m. to check in on Henry.  The doctor that she spoke with told her that they needed to come up to the hospital right away.  When they got up there, Henry had been moved back to a more critical room and the "pole of doom" was back (but he was not hooked up to anything on the pole of doom yet).  They discovered that the problems were due to dehydration.  His fluid/milk intake and meds to help with urine production have been adjusted.  They have him back on oxygen for the night, but hopefully will be able to take him off of that again by tomorrow.   Henry seems to be stabilized again, so the day is ending much better than it began.

Praying for no more steps back.  Just forward steps towards home!

The good news just keeps coming!

Lots of good news today!  David called with the update that the Pole of Doom is gone!  Here is what that means:  OXYGEN: gone!  ART LINE IN LEG: gone!  CHEST DRAIN: gone!  PATCH: you guessed it, gone!  He does still have the PICC line for now in case it becomes necessary, but all of the rest of those tubes, lines, etc are GONE!!!

They tried to bottle feed him today and that went okay, but not perfect.  They'll try again later and hoping Henry will get the hang of the bottle after 2 weeks without.  Overall, still a wonderful day!

And to sweeten this already great news: David & Dana got to hold Henry again!  Yaaaaaay!

I'm sure you all have big smiles on your faces already, but if not here is something that will make sure you do: David (somewhat proudly?) noted that Henry pooped on one of the nurses today.  That's one way of trying to get out of the hospital earlier!

Happy Friday!

Ventilator is outta here!

Just got the call from David that they took Henry off the ventilator about 45 minutes ago!   He now has the nose hose back to make sure he is able to get adequate oxygen levels, but he is doing the breathing!  Way to go Henry!

And that's not all...the catheter is out as well!  Time to break out the "pee pee tee pee"!

David also said there is a possibility of removing another tube or discontinuing another med later on today.  Will keep you all posted if that happens!

Much praise is due for all the progress Henry is making.  I am so hopeful that soon David & Dana will be able to hold their baby boy again.

A Good Day.

Just got off the phone with Dave. A few things that happened today.

Henry started every breath on his own today. Still not breathing on his own, but was starting every breath today..... even while he was sleeping!

Henry got to wear some cool teddy bear booties. Dave said they were a little big, but that means he still has some room to grow into them.

Henry decided to wake up and look around for about an hour. I'm sure he can't wait to see his extended family..... I know they are ready to get to see him!

And Henry also decided to give his mom and dad a present or two in his britches!

I'm sure there was a lot more, but this is what I got. Keep praying!

A message from Grammy

Hi Baby Henry,
Your Great Great Grandma McGinnis wants to say hello to you.  I have not been able to see you but I have spent many hours praying for you.  I saw pictures of you and you are a sweet baby boy and you are loved so much.  Tell mommy and daddy to give you a hug for me when you get strong enough.  I love you all and will keep praying for your healing and for strength for your mommy and daddy.
